What is the FMS?

Created by movement masterminds, Gray Cook and Lee Burton, the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a series of 7 movement tests designed to evaluate essential functional movement patterns and identify asymmetries and dysfunction that can lead to injury and decreased performance. After identifying faulty movement patterns, corrective exercises are prescribed, the majority of which can and should be performed prior to your normal exercise routine or WOD.

Anyone looking to understand and improve the way they move and function can and will benefit from the FMS. The FMS is designed to identify faulty movement patterns and PREVENT injuries, not help diagnose or treat them after they occur.  Recreational activities, work requirements, and even something as simple as hand-dominance creates movement asymmetries that can lead to dysfunction, thus, everyone from the average Joe to the elite athlete can benefit from the FMS.
